Post-Christmas Coziness

April's outfit: Ross jeans, belt from unknown origins because it was a Christmas present, handmade scarf, hand-me-down jacket, and red Converse.

Joia's outfit: Black Wal-mart turtleneck, thrifted tunic/dress from London, black Wal-mart leggings, Smartwool socks, boots handed down to me from my aunt's college days (I love the lining and metal detail on them), thrifted coat (this is probably my favourite coat of all time), scarf given to me from a dear friend who got it in Greece, hat handmade by my other sister (she spun the yarn herself too, but I made the tail).

I refuse to post the outfit I'm actually wearing today because it makes me look short and stocky, which I am not. But I did try on the dress I bought yesterday so I'm posting those pictures instead. I found this delightful number at the thrift store yesterday and it's entirely hand/homemade.

I generally don't go for cute things but the bow on the bodice is simply adorable and I love the dotted swiss netting and lace that peeks out from under the red at the hem.

Now I just need to find somewhere to wear it!

Christmas Day

Here's my outfit for the day. Thrifted dress, shirt, and skirt, Wal-mart leggings, thrifted shoes, and Smartwool socks.

One of my Christmas presents was this beautiful evening bag made out of a tie; my sisters gave it to me with matching makeup inside. :)

April got these fantastic sunglasses in her stocking, so later in the evening she brushed out her hair (she has crazy hair) and modeled them for us.

Christmas Eve cont.

This is all three of us sisters, all dressed up for our Christmas Eve party. Is there a family resemblance? The second photo is us showing Dad that we're rebellious teenage daughters. :)

Christmas Eve!

We're having our biannual Christmas Eve party this year, and one of the things I like most about parties is dressing up for them. Here I'm wearing a black turtleneck from Penney's I think, grey skinny jeans of my sister's (not April, the other one), and one of my favourite pairs of shoes from Ross. The fantastic necklace is from one of my good friends, who has a lovely blog which you can see here: http://thecuratorstyle.blogspot.com. Have a very merry Christmas every one!

Dressing Outside the Box

When I get dressed every morning, I often come up with things to wear and then decide against them because they are too weird. The top/dress I'm wearing in this post is something I picked up at a thrift store years ago; I think it's the top half of a salwaar kameez, which is pretty typical traditional Indian (like from India) clothing. I've never actually worked it into an outfit before because I just haven't had the courage and creativity to. I still don't know how I feel about this one, but I'm hoping it at least mostly works. I guess my point is that we need to stop being so afraid to wear this or that out of the house just because it's not "normal." Normal is boring. Add a little spice to your own life and to the lives of anyone who sees you!

Joia's outfit: Thrifted salwaar kameez top, skinny jeans from Ross, thrifted brown pumps, thrifted blazer, April's brown scarf worn as belt.
April's outfit: Hand-me-down striped t-shirt and black jacket, scarf from the Netherlands worn as skirt, black tights, grey Converse, homemade red felt hat.

Matching...

April's outfit: Thrifted shirt, Joia's white skirt from Target, black tights, black boots that were our aunt's in college, black hat from Target.
Joia's outfit: Hand-me-down shirt, skirt from my mum (I don't know where it's from), black tights, black boots that were my mum's in college, scarf from London (they're sold everywhere), and black hat that was also my mum's in college.
